Since the release of Juna’s Jar, editor Jessica Echeverria has kindly kept me updated with all the wonderful reviews.
Author Hanna Hymans Ostroff approached me with a story about Aya, a curious little panda and her encounter with a kind Buddhist monk. It was a challenge to take on the project as it would be the first time to illustrate an animal as a main character, but I enjoyed capturing her expressions and playfulness.
I received two copies of the book Nella Foresta Veramente Scura. Its cover is beautifully illustrated by Violeta Lopiz and the overall book design is superb.
Another yearbook cover illustration for ABC Japanese Preschool. (See the previous year’s cover here.) This is a very belated post as Yume graduated from preschool and is already a 2nd grader! Nonetheless wanted to share it with you.

My first book cover for young readers! It was a pleasure working with Susan and learning about Berkeley in the 1920’s. Inspiration for the cover design was found in the friendship shared by the two main characters whose relationship is strengthened as they are faced with anti-Japanese prejudices.
